It depends on the target degree and current foundation. STEM, actuarial studies and some business courses reward strong maths, so Extension often helps — but taking a harder course without a solid base can drag the overall result down. We first assess how well the student has mastered Advanced, then advise whether to add Extension, and tutor for whichever level they take.

The earlier, the calmer. Year 11 (Preliminary) is where many subjects build their foundation — a solid base makes Year 12 far easier. Starting in Year 12 is by no means too late; we adjust the focus to the time remaining, prioritising weak modules and exam technique.

In NSW, school-based assessment counts towards the final HSC and carries real weight. We work around each student's school assessment schedule — reviewing the relevant content, walking through question types and running timed practice — so students perform steadily in Assessment Tasks and Trials, not only in the final exam.

They are different HSC English courses: Advanced is the most demanding, Standard suits most students, and EAL-D is for eligible students whose first language isn't English (many Chinese-background students qualify). We help identify what the student's current course requires and tutor reading comprehension, text analysis and writing structure — with particular attention to the expression and question-interpretation issues Chinese students often face.

Primarily one-on-one, so the content can be tailored entirely to the student's weak spots. Frequency varies: once a week per subject is sustainable for most students, with extra sessions added during exam crunch. We don't believe in undifferentiated drilling or stacking up hours — we schedule to actual need.
